These statistics from the U.S. Small Business Administration for 2008 expose the truth:

  • A lot of small businesses’ marketing efforts this year will focus on Lead Generation, according to a study conducted in December 2008 for the Yellow Pages Association (YPA).
  • Over 50% of small-business owners claimed lead generation is their greatest challenge.
  • Nearly one-out-of-five said lack of ad dollars was the toughest marketing problem they faced.

  • Display advertising appears to be the big loser in 2009.  It gets low ROI reviews from marketers at a time when brand in general is under-valued.
