Any marketer who has achieved business success in the long term – strongly agrees with the old saying, "The money is in the list." Indeed most marketers view their lists as the foundation for their success and their most valuable business asset.
The golden rule of Direct Response Marketing is to build a list of opt-in subscribers. Your greatest business asset is the list you build… I’m sure you’ve heard that said over and over again. You’ll keep hearing it because it is absolutely true.
The stronger your customer, client, or patient relationships are… AND… the bigger your opt-in list is, the more money you will make – it’s a proven fact that you should not ignore if you hope to be successful with Direct Response Marketing.

When a someone makes a purchase from you, this is the time to start getting opt-in subscribers. You want to at the very least, collect their email address. Otherwise, they will make their purchase, and happily go on with their lives – and probably forget all about you. You don’t want that to happen. You want to have the ability to sell future products, services, or upgrades to them in the future
However, despite an almost endless supply of tutorials and testaments to the incredible value of list building, most small business marketers still aren’t including this precious marketing strategy in their "bag-of-marketing-tricks". They fail to either grasp the concept of long-term visitor value, or think that list building does not apply to them.
Many of the "list-less business owners" we consult with feel that setting up a list, generating ideas for content and publishing a regular newsletter will be difficult and time-consuming, or simply "too much work."

In order to effectively build a list of your current customers AND qualified prospects, you need to turn your website into a "Marketing Machine". Unfortunately, most business websites are nothing more than "Online Billboards or Online Brochures".
These "old-fashioned websites" do little more than provide your visitors with a basic "Home page", "About Us page", "Products/Services page(s)", "Contact Us page", etc.
If this describes your company’s website, it’s admirable you’re on the web… however, this type of website completely ignores and neglects a major marketing opportunity to begin an interactive relationship with your visitors.
The first thing you want to do is add an easy way for your customers, clients, patients, visitors, and prospects to conveniently volunteer their contact information to you and request that they be notified about your various offers, promotions, specials, events, news, announcements, etc.
This is most effectively accomplished using a technology called an "Opt-In Form".
You can have this done without it even affecting your current website’s layout, look and feel. In other words, there’s no need to have to re-design your site, just make sure you FOCUS your visitor’s attention on your "Opt-In Form".
It’s called an "opt-in form" because you are giving your visitors the "option to volunteer their information to you" so you can stay in communications with them.
WAIT… most importantly… you MUST make sure to offer your visitors and customers something of "High Perceived Value" in exchange for their contact information. This increases your "opt-in rate" which is important as you move to the next step of this marketing strategy.
With all of the powerfully effective marketing technology available today, you want to make your list building process as AUTOMATED as you possibly can. The objective is to develop a system that you can implement and have it "run on auto-pilot" for you 24/7.
